Meerut: Three people, including a UP police constable, died in two separate hit-and-run
accidents on NH-9 in Hapur on Sunday, police said.
Constable Saleem Ahmed (40), posted as the driver for Hapur's superintendent of police (SP), was killed when a truck hit his motorcycle on NH-9 in the Pilakhua area. The truck driver fled the scene. "The accident occurred around 7 am while Ahmed was on his way to join duty," said additional SP Vineet Bhatnagar."
"Ahmed joined the UP police in 2006.
A case has been registered against the unidentified vehicle. His body has been sent for autopsy, and further investigation is underway. The police department deeply mourns his death and will provide all possible support to the bereaved family," he said, adding, "Efforts are underway to identify the vehicle, and the driver will be arrested soon."
Ahmed is survived by his wife and two children, who reside in Noida.
In a separate incident on Sunday morning, two friends—Deshraj (22) and Amit Valmiki (20), residents of Hasanpur in Amroha—were killed when their motorcycle was hit by another unidentified vehicle on NH-9 in the Garh Mukhteshwar area.
"The bodies have been sent for autopsy, and an FIR is being registered based on the family's complaint," said CO Varun Mishra.
