Shillong: Union minister of state for Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary on Thursday visited South West Khasi Hills district and reviewed the status of progress of central govtschemes in the district.
Accompanied by state minister in charge of the water resource department C Ymbon, he inspected various centrally sponsored projects, including the Hydro Meteorological Station under the National Hydrology Project at Umngi River, the Phodumtyngkoh-Phodtangjem Minor Irrigation Project at Rangmaw village, Miyawaki Project in Pyndenspar, Amrit Sarovar Project Phase-II in Sakwang Village, and the MGNREGA project at Phot Mawpon.
The minister also inspected the Flow Irrigation Project (FIP) implemented by the water resource department at Phot Umnew and reviewed the implementation of the schemes and met the representatives of different departments and district administration at Mawkyrwat.
Addressing the media here, the minister reiterated the Centre’s focus and priority in developing the NE region across different sectors. “There has been special focus of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the development of northeastern states. Union ministers visit the NE every fortnight to ensure speedy implementation of the Centre’s developmental programmes,” he further said.
“I reviewed the implementation of schemes of various departments with officials of the district administration. The focus is to assess the level of development in the state in different parameters and where the state of Meghalaya stands in comparison with other states of the country,” he added.
The minister also visited Mawten and Nonglang villages to inspect the progress of the Greater Mawkyrwat Water Supply Scheme and the Nonglang Water Supply Scheme.
