Varanasi: Ballia police on Sunday took two boys, aged 7 & 8, in custody on charges of raping a 7-year-old girl on Saturday. The girl, who was initially admitted to the district hospital, was referred to Varanasi for treatment.
Ballia SP Vikrant Vir on Sunday said the girl was admitted to district hospital, where women doctors advised shifting her to Varanasi for treatment.
Mentioning that the condition of the girl was out of danger, he said that on the complaint of the girl's mother, an FIR was lodged against the two boys. Both were caught and interrogated before initiating action.
During initial investigation by the police, it came to light that on Saturday, two boys from the neighbourhood took the girl to a lonely place and gang-raped her.
The incident came to light when she returned home and her condition started deteriorating. Initially, her mother took the girl to her sister's place in Haldi. But when her condition deteriorated further, they rushed her to the community health centre from where she was referred to the district women's hospital. After providing initial treatment, the women doctors at the district hospital referred her to Varanasi.
On being informed, many senior officials, including SP, CO (city) Gaurav Kumar, and Kotwali in-charge Yogendra Bahadur Singh, reached the hospital. Based on the family's complaint, police caught both the minor boys accused and began questioning them.
SP Vikrant Vir added that further action will be taken in line with the juvenile justice laws.
