Guwahati: Based on observations made by the CBI, a departmental inquiry has been initiated against six Assam Police personnel, while two home guards have been dismissed from service over alleged negligence in investigation and attempts to destroy evidence regarding Junmoni Rabha’s death, police sources said on Sunday.
The central investigation agency had been assigned the case in June last year, after the Assam Police woman SI had died, under mysterious circumstances in a road accident, in Nagaon.
Back then, DGP GP Singh had said that the recommendation to transfer the case to CBI was put forward to “maintain neutrality of the probe”.
Police sources said that those facing departmental inquiry include the then in-charge of the Haibargaon police outpost Abhajyoti Rabha and the then OC of Jakhalabandha police station Paban Kalita.
Last year on May 16, Rabha (30), who was posted as an SI at Morikalang police outpost in Nagaon district, was found dead on NH-37 at Jakhalabandha, 55 km east of Nagaon town, at around 1.45 am.
Her body was recovered from her private vehicle, with injury marks all over. Initially it was believed that her vehicle collided with a container truck, coming from the opposite direction. The truck had been seized by the cops.
While initially the case was transferred to CID by DGP Singh, Assam Police on May 20, asked state govt to hand over the case to the CBI for maintaining neutrality in the probe.
It is pertinent to mention that during its investigation, the CID supposedly established a link between the recovery of Fake Indian Currency Notes and fake golds and Rabha’s death, as she was investing a case against racketeers.
