Ravi Kishan, who portrays the witty village cop Shyam Manohar in 'Laapataa Ladies', expressed his delight at the film being officially selected as India’s entry for the Oscars 2025. Directed by
Kiran Rao, the social satire follows two newlywed brides who find themselves lost in an unfamiliar setting.
Talking to a well-known publication, Ravi said, "I am so happy. I am not able to believe this.
This is my first film that has made an entry in the Oscars...I give the whole credit to Kiran Rao,
Aamir Khan, the writers and the cast of the film...We know that this film will be a hit, it will make an entry in the nationals. But we will enter the Oscars, I never thought that. It should be re-released in the theatres and be tax-free for the audience. This movie teaches a lot of things. It is a book in itself.."
Apart from Ravi, 'Laapataa Ladies' features Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Durgesh Kumar, and Chhaya Kadam in key roles. The film was released in theaters on March 1, 2024, and is now available for streaming on Netflix.
'Laapataa Ladies' marks Kiran Rao's second directorial effort after 'Dhobi Ghat'. She has also produced notable films like 'Dangal', 'Talaash', 'Secret Superstar', 'Delhi Belly', and 'Laal Singh Chaddha'.
