Chidiyan Da Chamba Movie Review : An action packed drama of women's empowerment
Critic's Rating: 3.0/5
STORY: Four girls have been dealt a bad hand by fate and facing oppression in one way or another. Led by circumstances, they decide to break out of their victimized stance and take justice in their own hands, which brings the four together. The girls fight for each other and in the end can find what they are seeking, independence from dominance.
REVIEW: Played by Amyra Dastur, Sharan Kaur, Neha Pawar and Mehnaaz Maan, the narrative begins by showing atrocities being committed on them to subjugate them under male power in various ways. Running away from their respective oppressive situations in life, once these four girls are brought together at the same place where they are left with no choice but to retaliate to save themselves. This becomes a liberating experience for them, and they are set on a path to seek freedom from oppression and are out to seek revenge from their wrongdoers. The girls are inspired in their rebellion by Sikh warrior, Baba Banda Sing Bahadur and give a rousing performance of ordinary people being instilled great strength by iconic leaders.
While projecting their journey, the film's direction assumes a strong role as the girls are shown being transformed from meek girls to powerful women. Amyra Dastur and Sharan Kaur play their parts with much strength of character and conviction of force. The action sequences of these two actresses are thrilling and show maturity in execution. Mehnaaz Maan deserves a special mention for playing her character with spiteful revenge of a woman who is frustrated by seeing the wrongs in society.
Punjabi singer, Shivjot who is making his acting debut with this film plays a police officer who is tracking the girl's journey. He has done a credible job and successfully joins the bandwagon of Punjabi singers turned actors.
The film has done justice to its subject of showing women being empowered, though it tends to go over the top at places and is trying a little too hard to show the transformation of girls from weak to powerful.
The music helps the narrative and is haunting at times.
Overall, the film is a great effort from the makers in an industry that is largely ruled by male actors and romantic comedy subjects.
