Nasoor Movie Review : A decent thriller with some powerful performances
Critic's Rating: 3.0/5
Synopsis: Kuch baatein agar bahot der tak apne andar dabake rakhe, toh woh Nasoor bann jaati hai. All of us have seen this or have been in a situation where there is a lot you want to say and do, but you just don’t have the energy to fight back. But what if that continues? Nasoor, a psychological thriller, is a fresh concept in the Gujarati film industry that showcases how depression can take over a person’s mind, leaving him with no will to live. If thriller is your favourite genre, Nasoor can be a good weekend watch for you.
Story: Harshvardhan has everything a person needs. A successful business, loving wife, and every other luxury. Yet, he is not able to find a purpose in his life to wake up every day. With constant advice from his well-wishers about seeking help, Harshvardhan uses all his cards and wants to take his own life, but in vain. Instead, he loses his business partner, a happy household, and acquaintances. How he battles and deals through it, is what Nasoor is all about.
Review: Written by Kajal Mehta and directed by Rishil Joshi, Nasoor is a good attempt at a psychological thriller. The concept is fresh and bold, and Rishil has created some wonderful frames depicting them. While the film revolves around the central character, the other characters associated with him in different ways also get decent screen space and time. The intense background score by Maulik Mehta enhances the mood of the scenes. While the second half could have been crisper, the powerful performances by the actors keep the audience engaged till the end.
Talking about the performances, this is easily one of Hitu Kanodia’s best performances till date. He effortlessly gets into the character and surprises the audience with a varied range of emotions and expressions within one scene. Towards the end, when his eyes show the pain he is dealing with, it makes the audience feel it too. Niilam Paanchal as Harshvardhan’s wife, Jolly, has portrayed a very complex character effortlessly. Denisha Ghumra, Hemin Trivedi, Heena Jaikishan and Vaishakh Ratanben have brought their respective characters to life in a good way.
The film takes its own sweet time to build up, and the climax could have been tighter. But still, it’s a brilliant attempt to create something new in the Gujarati industry. You can watch this movie for a fun, thrilling weekend.
