Zindagi Zindabaad Movie Review : Steely resolve is the essence of this film
Critic's Rating: 3.5/5
While Zindagi Zindabaad touches many facets/aspects, including repercussions of drug addiction, its impact on self and family in depth, it stresses on the importance of possessing a strong will power to overcome obstacles. The strength of the movie lies in its gripping and tight plot, which is based on true events. The film is made on the instances and experiences chronicled by drug addict, gangster turned social crusader Mintu Gurusaria (real name Baljinder Singh) in his book Soolan. Basically, it talks about reformation and is based on a real-life story. The film is based around the lives of five youngsters who are trapped in the misery of addiction.
Though it took its makers almost four years (the film was conceptualised in 2019) to get the film to the theatres, the wait turned out to be worth it. The director of the film, Prem Singh Sidhu nicely brought the intricacies of the system and a mindset of a drug consumer or addict. While singer-actor Ninja plays the character of Mintu Gurusaria, Sukhdeep Sukh plays Jagga Boxer. Actress Mandy Takhar is in the role of Mandeep (Mintu's wife) with Amrit Amby essaying the character of Shinda.
The film opens in Malout, a belt that earned a tag of being notorious for growing drug addicts. Falling in the trap of drugs the actors initially were fully in the lifestyle, however soon they realised it's not worth it. While coming out of the trap was a task, they all struggled and did not give up unless they came out of the muck of drugs.
Besides showing social impact, near ostracisation from society, the film highlights how drugs not just kill one physically but also mentally. The film shows well the mindset of an addict who appears to be helpless and perplexed. The film delivers a message of how keeping a head balanced and remaining focussed helps in overcoming even the biggest issues of life. It's not difficult to come out of drugs as one needs to remain strong.
The film has songs by Ninja, Jenny Johal and Himmat Sandhu which are fully in sync with the theme. The film is also an inspiring story and disseminates a special message. It is themed well around how life is good and one must embrace it. The film makes an instant connection and its plot keeps people hooked. The actors did a good job and each one of them did justice to their onscreen characters.
