Story: A happy family of four gets trapped due to black magic, good and evil energies, with a blend of psychological drama. What happens next, and how far will you go to save your family and take revenge for the same? It’s a genre that Gujarati cinema hasn’t tackled often, and it makes for a gripping story.

Review: Krishnadev Yagnik, the writer-director of Vash, is on a spree of writing films belonging to different genres, making people laugh, fall in love, wowing them, and coming up with powerful stories that keep you on the edge of your seat. Vash is a psychological thriller and if you are in the mood to explore the theme of black magic and supernatural activity, this is a film that you should watch. Janki Bodiwala, Hiten Kumar, Hitu Kanodia, and Niilam Panchal have put in their best efforts and they manage to keep the audience hooked till the end credits. This genre, a psychological drama, has probably been executed so well for the first time in the history of Gujarati cinema.

Vash revolves around a young woman, Aarya and her family, who is cursed by a powerful sorcerer. The sorcerer, Hiten Kumar, makes Aarya experience terrifying visions and she has to deal with supernatural abilities that she cannot control. The film effectively builds an eerie atmosphere with well-executed shots that bring the world of black magic and supernatural activities to life. The actors effectively manage to heighten the sense of danger and mystery. This is Janki Bodiwala’s best piece of work since her debut and she makes people feel all the emotions through her acting. She has effortlessly stolen the show. The supporting cast has also delivered emotionally impactful performances.

The film doesn’t shy away from exploring dark, sinister aspects of the subject matter, which this genre demands, and it does a great job of portraying the fear and terror that black magic can evoke. The storyline towards the end could have been tighter and crisper. With so much violence, black magic and supernatural activities, the idea was to have closure, which was missing. The film does have a loose end, but it still engages and captivates the audience thanks to some powerful performances.

But it is good to see how the director has kept his team and actors consistent in his last few releases. That rapport with the actors and working with the same team probably helps in understanding the director’s vision and delivering a good film. If you are a fan of supernatural horror, or simply looking for a thrilling movie experience, this film is worth checking out.

Hindi Shanitaan v Gujarati Vash. Same-same story and same-same possessed body bodiwala. Come-on reviewer where is your research? Which movie stole storyline? Both released within days of each other. Idea seems to keep copying from remaining 3 directions; north from south, west from north keeping it local eith reglional languages. Its like food, same rice different dish. Creativity out the door. Last centuary it was bolly copying hollywood, now with risk of being sued subcontinent copying within its boundary.
