3 Ekka Movie Review : A good family entertainer that leaves you in splits

Critic's Rating: 4.0/5
Story: Despite not having a concrete business, Kalrav aka Colour (played by Malhar) accepts the challenge of his girlfriend Mansi’s (played by Kinjal) father- he needs to earn ₹50 lakhs in three months to marry his daughter. Two of his best friends-Kabir aka Baba (Yash Soni), the share market and poker expert, and Bhargav aka Bhuriyo (Mitra Gadhvi), a newlywed guy from a traditional household-come to his aid. They take a loan from a powerful moneylender (Hitu Kanodia), which is to be repaid with interest. They try to make a quick buck by playing poker, leading to some hilarious and unexpected events.

Review: Right from the beginning, the filmsets the right vibe, which is crucial for a comedy. With some rib-tickling humour and situations, the breezy first half sets the tone for a powerful second half. With simple locations and not-so-extravagant scenarios, the story and performances take centre stage. Director Rajesh Sharma tactfully handles the twists and turns in the story, which takes the audience by surprise.

As for the performances, the cast has done a good job. Chhello Divas pair Malhar and Kinjal share a wonderful on-screen chemistry, while Esha and Tarjanee perfectly complement the chaotic characters played by Yash and Mitra. With excellent comic timing, Malhar, Yash and Mitra come up with memorable performances. The supporting starcast, comprising Chetan Daiya, Prem Gadhavi and Om Bhatt among others, lifts the film and there are some noteworthy cameos during the second half. Hitu Kanodia comes up with an impactful performance. Kedar-Bhargav's background score is interesting and while the film doesn’t have many songs, Tehunk (sung by Aditya Gadhvi and Bhargav Purohit) is an energetic number that stays with you after leaving the theatre.

While the second half of the film could have done with tighter editing, the interesting climax will bring a big smile on your face. Overall, it’s a good family entertainer that leaves you in splits.
